Hamilton e gli altri: i musical da non perdere a Londra nel 2017 [ENGLISH VERSION]

Vi riveliamo le cinque produzioni musicali del West End per cui vale la pena fare carte false quest’anno.

“Hamilton”

Sulla scia di La La Land, il musical moderno diretto da Damien Chazelle, il genere ha ritrovato il successo sul grande schermo. A teatro, invece, il turbinio di coreografie e canzoni non ha mai conosciuto battute d’arresto. Accanto ai classici che replicano da diverse stagioni, l’anno appena iniziato vedrà alcune nuove produzioni sbarcare nel West End londinese. Direttamente da Broadway e non solo, ecco i musical da tenere d’occhio a Londra nel 2017.
Hamilton: ha davvero bisogno di presentazioni? Il pluripremiato – con 11 Tony Award – musical di Lin-Manuel Miranda, ispirato al libro Alexander Hamilton di Rob Chernov, sarà l’evento dell’anno. Dopo Broadway, le vicende di uno dei padri fondatori degli Stati Uniti conquisteranno la vecchia Inghilterra a suon di hip-hop e RnB. Tuttavia, bisognerà aspettare fino a ottobre per vedere il cast calcare le tavole del Victoria Palace Theatre. Intanto, cominciate a pregare per un biglietto o due.
Girls non ha niente a che vedere con la serie omonima di HBO, ma siamo certi che Hannah Horvath & co. apprezzerebbero l’audacia delle signore protagoniste del musical (tratto dal film Calendar Girls). Posando nude per un calendario, le ragazze riusciranno a raccogliere oltre tre milioni di sterline. Dal 28 gennaio al Phoenix Theatre, con la colonna sonora di Gary Barlow, ex Take That.

“42nd Street “

An American in Paris è uno dei moltissimi riferimenti illustri di La La Land, com’è evidente a partire dalla locandina che condivide i colori con il poster del film. La nota storia d’amore tra il soldato americano e la ballerina francese farà sospirare il pubblico, complici le musiche di Ira e George Gerswhin, dal 4 marzo al Dominion Theatre.
42nd Street è ambientato nel backstage di un musical di Broadway durante la Grande Depressione, tra rivalità, amori e scalata al successo. Vincitore del Tony Award, il musical tratto dal romanzo omonimo di Bradford Ropes sarà in scena al Theatre Royal Drury Lane dal prossimo 20 marzo.
Follies è il nuovo revival del musical del 1971 diretto da Harold Prince e Michael Bennett, con le musiche di Stephen Sondheim. Dominic Cooke dirigerà questa versione con protagonista, tra gli altri, Imelda Staunton nel ruolo di una delle ormai adulte ballerine del Weismann’s Follies, sul punto di essere demolito. Tra passato e presente, personaggi reali e fantasmi dei successi passati, lo spettacolo debutterà al National Theatre a fine anno.
Preparate le scarpe da ballo, siate pronti a fischiettare quel motivetto accattivante per giorni e giorni e immergetevi nella magia del musical.

Unveiled the five new hottest West End musical productions

“Girls”

Following the unprecedented success of La La Land, the modern musical directed by Damien Chazelle, this genre came back on the big screen. On stage, however, the combination of dancing and singing never came to a stalemate. Alongside a few classics with an impressive number of performances, the new year will see some productions coming to the West End. Straight out of Broadway, here are the musicals to keep an eye on in 2017.
Hamilton: does it really need an introduction? The winner of 11 Tony Awards, the musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda, adapted from Rob Chernov’s book Alexander Hamilton will be the event of the year. The life of one of the American Founding Fathers are ready to win the merry, old England thanks to a diverse original score, including hip-hop and RnB. The wait is only just begun, though, as you will need to be patient until October to see the cast at the Victoria Palace Theatre. In the meantime, pray to get a ticket or two.
Girls has nothing to do with the HBO series, but we are pretty sure Hannah Horvath & co. would love the bravado of these ladies. Adaptation of the film Calendar Girls, this is the story of a group of women posing nude for a calendar and raising more than £3 million. From 28 January at the Phoenix Theatre, with the original score of former Take That Gary Barlow.

“Follies”

An American in Paris is one of the many illustrious references of La La Land, as you can see from the poster sharing the same colours as the one of the film. The love story between the American soldier and the French ballerina will make you go sigh, also thanks to the original score by Ira and George Gershwin. From 4 March at the Dominion Theatre.
42nd Street is set in the backstage of a Broadway musical during the Great Depression, showing rivalries, affairs and the never-ending climb towards success. Tony Award winner, the musical inspired by the homonymous novel by Bradford Ropes will be at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 20 March.
Follies is the revival of the 1971 musical directed by Harold Prince and Michael Bennett, with the musics composed by Stephen Sondheim. Dominic Cooke will direct this new version featuring Imelda Staunton in the role of one of the former dancers of the Weismann’s Follies, about to be demolished. A voyage between past and present, real character and ghosts, the show will debut at the National Theatre at the end of the year.
All you have to do is preparing those dancing shoes and being ready to whistle the catchy tunes for days to come. That’s the magic of musicals.
